From Amsterdam with love

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands, known for its picturesque canals, charming architecture, and vibrant culture. The locals are typically quiet yet extremely polite and welcoming, eager to proudly share their town with nice visitors.

Amsterdam was founded in the 12th century as a fishing village, and it quickly grew to become a major trading port during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. The city’s canals were originally built to facilitate trade and transport. There are over 60 miles of canals in Amsterdam, which have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Netherlands is famous for its tulips, and Amsterdam is no exception. The city's annual Tulip Festival takes place in April and May, and there are many places to see the colorful blooms, including the Keukenhof gardens and the flower market on the Singel canal.

Amsterdam is home to many stunning examples of Dutch architecture, including the narrow and tall canal houses, the Westerkerk church, and the modernist buildings in the Zuidas business district.

The Netherlands has a rich cultural and artistic heritage. There are several museums in Amsterdam, like the Rijksmuseum Museum and the Van Gogh Museum, showcasing the works of prominent Dutch artists. Also, the Anne Frank House is of historical significance.

Amsterdam hosts many festivals throughout the year, including King's Day in April, Amsterdam Pride in August, and the Amsterdam Dance Event in October.

Netherlands is one of the most bicycle-friendly countries in the world. Complimenting a very efficient and modern public transportation network for locals, cycling is a very popular way to get around. Amsterdam has nearly 250 miles of bike paths and more than 800,000 bikes.

Dutch cuisine may not be as well-known as some other European cuisines, but Amsterdam has a diverse culinary scene, with many restaurants serving international cuisine, as well as traditional Dutch dishes like stroopwafels, bitterballen, and herring.

Another unique aspect of Amsterdam culture is the coffee shop scene, where the purchase and consumption of small amounts of cannabis products are commonplace. Amsterdam is also known for its Red Light District, which is a designated area where prostitution is legal and regulated. It's a popular tourist attraction, but it's important to be respectful and not take photos of the sex workers.

Amsterdam is a modern, charming, clean city with a great deal to offer, and

definitely worth a visit. We highly recommend including it on your next European adventure, book your flight, accommodation, excursions, and rental car on Booking.com.
